Great sports town, though!  These fans are tough and serious.  Yes, they actually did boo Santa Claus.  But, there is a way for a player to get along with the fans even if the team isn’t winning.  When things go bad, say they are bad.  When you play bad, say you play bad.  This city hates coach-speak and canned player statements.  Philadelphia is Real.  Go to Los Angeles if you want tinsel.

I remember the Philadelphia Flyers of the late 1970’s.  I had a college friend from Philly who was a nut.  Remember Bernie Parent?  Mr. Clarke?  The Broad Street Bullies defined what NHL teams should play like.  The Philadelphia fans deserve a return to the past.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a great owner in Robert Lurie.  In the past decade they made the NFC Championship Game 6 times, won once, and lost the Super Bowl.  They will go down in history like the Buffalo Bills as teams who came close.  They have put a powerhouse together this year with Michael Vick leading the way.  Of course, they may be too good and have too high expectations.  But, you can expect LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, and Jamar Chaney will make a big difference this year, and this is the year they could make it over the hump.

The Philadelphia 76ers were once a premier NBA team.  Wilt Chamberlain was a great player, but today, there is no star for the 76ers and fans are frustrated.  It has been a long, long time since they have been in the mix for an NBA championship.

Which brings us to the Philadelphia Phillies, the dominating National League team for the past few years.  It seems like they have signed the top 4 pitchers in the league and have an offenses second to none.  Ryan Howard, Doc Halladay, Bruck Lidge,  Cliff Lee.  These guys are so machine-like, they will soon be disliked as much as the Yankees.  But, they bring joy to the Philadelphia fans, who need to have a winner to keep them on edge for next year.
